Established in 1998 as a cooperative effort between three research museums: the Museum of Comparative Zoology, the Harvard University Herbaria, and the Mineralogical and Geological Museum, the Harvard Museum of Natural History is the result of these partnerships and the public face of these museums. With a mission to enhance the public appreication and understanding of humans’ place in the natural world, the Harvard Museum of Natural History aims to spark curiosity and a spirit of discovery in people of all ages.

Today the museum reflects the history of its parents (the three research museums) and an evolution toward a 21st century institution that presents cutting-edge research, addresses contemporary issues, and offers creative educational experience in a unique and intimate setting.

The museum believes that they are able to change the way that we see and understand the world through observation, asking questions, and generating new discoveries. With a variety of permanent and special exhibits on continuous display, you can learn about many different aspects of life in our world.
